Parks & Recreation Input Meeting

In partnership with Coastal Carolina University, the City of Florence Parks, Recreation, & Sports Tourism Department is hosting a public input meeting on Monday, March 24th at the Pearl Moore Basketball Center from 6 PM - 8 PM.

Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Determine key necessities
  • Share ideas and suggestions
  • Discuss issues that matter to you
This is a chance to make a difference and help shape the future of parks and recreation in the City of Florence.

More Information:

A team from Coastal Carolina University, led by Dr. Don Rockey and Dr. Elizabeth Johansen, will assess the City of Florence's parks and recreation needs. This study will gather community input, compare peer cities, and conduct a citywide survey to guide future planning. The CCU team brings expertise in community planning and has conducted similar studies in Mississippi and South Carolina.

Announcing QAT Florence Pickleball Championships

Registration is open for the QAT Florence Pickleball Championships to be held on May 3-4, 2025.

Format: Set Partner Pool Play + Single Elimination Bracket, Set Partner Round Robin

Price: $35.00 / Player (must register and pay as a team)

All players will receive a tournament shirt.

Schedule of Play:
Saturday, May 3rd – Men’s and Women’s Doubles 2.5 through 4.0 divisions will start at 9:00 a.m. Men’s and Women’s Open Doubles divisions will start at 1:00 p.m.
Sunday, May 4th – All Mixed Doubles divisions will start at 9:00 a.m.

Awards:
All divisions will award medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
******* In addition to medals, CASH prizes will be given in the Open Doubles Divisions Only*******
The first-place team in each division will receive $500. The second-place team in each division will receive $250. The third-place team in each division will receive $150. This includes Men's Open Doubles, Women's Open Doubles, and Mixed Open Doubles.

Florence Gymnastics Excels at State Meets

Florence Gymnastics and the City of Florence was represented by 4 Xcel Silver gymnasts, 1 Level 6 gymnast and 1 Level 4 gymnast at the South Carolina State Meets! We faced the hardest competition within our state and we are so proud of our girls for coming out on top!

 

Level 6, Elianna, competed against 13 gymnasts in her age group and placed;

5th on Vault - 8.750

5th on Beam - 9.225

6th on Floor - 9.425

 

Level 4, Peyton, competed against 13 gymnasts in her age group and placed;
5th on Vault – 9.450

2nd on Floor – 9.425

Track Athletes Headed to National Junior Olympics

Florence Track Club has 2 youth athletes who will be competing at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, the week of July 24-30th. To qualify for the National JO meet, athletes had to finish in the top 8 in their events at the USATF Region 4 Junior Olympic Meet that was held in Tampa, Florida, July 6-9th.

 Kamren Matthews, 9 year old female athlete, will be competing in the 100m dash, 200m dash, and long jump. Kamren came in 1st in the 100m and 200m at the SC State Association meet in June. She will be competing in the 200m prelims on Wednesday, July 26th, the 100m prelims on Thursday, July 27th, and long jump on Sunday, July 30th.

 Kerstynn Barr, 12 year old female athlete, will be competing in shot put, discus, and javelin. Kerstynn came in 2nd in discus and 3rd in shot put at the SC State Association meet in June. She will be competing in javelin on Thursday, July 27th, shot put on Friday, July 28th, and discus on Saturday, July 29th.

 Both of these young ladies have trained hard to make it to this level, and the City of Florence Athletics Department wishes them good luck and safe travels as they head to Eugene next week!

Congratulations Track & Field Athletes!

Over the weekend of July 7th-9th, 24 athletes from Florence Track Club traveled to Tampa, Florida, to compete in the USATF Region 4 Junior Olympic Championships. Competing against athletes from South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, the Florence Track Club athletes well represented the City of Florence. The top 8 athletes in each event qualified for an opportunity to compete at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships to be held in Eugene, Oregon, on July 24th-30th. 

Congratulations to Caydence Ford - 13-14 Girls Javelin Regional Champion!

In addition to Caydence, the following athletes also qualified to compete in Eugene:

Florence Youth Sports In Action This Weekend

The City of Florence Athletics Department wants to say good luck to all of our youth sports teams who are competing this weekend! 

9/10/11 Baseball will be competing in the Little League State Tournament in Irmo beginning Thursday, July 6 at 6pm. See the full weekend schedule.

Minors Baseball will be competing in the Little League State Tournament in Greenwood beginning Thursday, July 6 at 5:30pm. See the full weekend schedule.

Minors Softball will be competing in the Little League State Tournament at Freedom Florence beginning Friday, July 7 at 6pm. See the full weekend schedule.

Majors Softball will be competing in the Little League State Tournament at Freedom Florence beginning Friday, July 7 at 8pm. See the full weekend schedule.

Florence Track Club will have 24 athletes competing at the Region 4 Track Meet in Tampa, Florida beginning Friday, July 7. See the full weekend schedule.

  • Florence athletes will compete in the 200m dash prelims, 4x100m relay, and shot put on Friday.
  • Florence athletes will compete in the 100m dash prelims, 400m dash prelims, long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin, and discus on Saturday.
  • Florence athletes will complete in long jump, high jump, javelin, and discus on Sunday, as well as any athletes who make it to the finals from the 100m, 200m, and 400m prelims.
