Public Works Department

The Public Works Department is comprised of four divisions of work which are made up of 112 full time employees:
Beautification & Facilities Division:
The Beautification and Facilities Division encompasses several elements of the Public Works Department, to include, but not limited to: Parks Maintenance, Athletic Facility and Grounds Maintenance, Tree Beautification, Streets Maintenance, Right-of-Way Maintenance, Mosquito Control, Gateway Enhancement Projects, Downtown District Beautification, Sign Shop, Special Event Planning/Setup, and the Jayne Boswell Animal Shelter.
Equipment Maintenance Division:
The Equipment Maintenance Division provides and operates the City garage which provides integral services and maintenance to the City’s fleet of 900 vehicles and pieces of equipment.
Recreation Division:
The Recreation Division is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, supervising and coordinating a comprehensive plan of leisure activities for the citizens of Florence. The Division is also charged with the responsibility of providing safe, well-maintained parks and facilities that serve the City of Florence neighborhood residents.
Sanitation Division:
The Sanitation Division provides garbage, recycling and yard debris removal services to 14,000 residents weekly as well as dumpster service to 560 commercial entities.
