Boards and Commissions

The Planning Department administers the City's three review boards. The Planning Commission (PC), which oversees the Unified Development Ordinance and Comprehensive Plan, approves zoning and rezoning requests and processes annexation requests. The Design Review Board (DRB) issues Certificates of Appropriateness for any development or alterations made to properties within the historic overlay districts and administers the Design Guidelines for Downtown Florence, SC. The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) hears requests for variances, for appeals from rulings of the planning director, and for special exception permits from the Unified Development Ordinance.
