Negotiator's Team

About Us

The Florence Police Department Crisis Negotiation Team is a group of individuals who are trained in the art of communicating.  Negotiators work in a slow methodical process to de-escalate a situation and achieve a peaceful resolve.  The first officer on scene of a critical incident will begin the crisis negotiation process and then relinquish control to a negotiator as soon as possible.  Situations that normally require a negotiator include, among many other scenarios: Subjects threatening violence, suicidal individuals, barricaded subjects, criminals attempting evasion and hostage situations.  The ultimate goal of a Crisis Negotiator is to save lives.
