Beautification and Facilities List of Responsibilities

The Beautification and Facilities Division encompasses several elements of the Public Works Department, to include, but not limited to:

  • Park Facility and Grounds – perpetual maintenance and care

  • Athletic Facility and Grounds – perpetual maintenance and care

  • Urban Forestry Program / Tree Beautification

    • Aesthetic Improvements – trimming, pruning, planting, removals, and stump grinding

  • Streets Maintenance

    • Asphalt Work – pothole repair, utility cuts, and large patching

    • Concrete Work – sidewalk repairs including reconstruction and replacement

    • Asphalt Striping

    • Snow/Ice Control – brine and other salt applications based on conditions

  • Right-of-Way Maintenance

    • Mowing, edging, hedge trimming, and weed control

  • Mosquito Control – application of adulticides and larvicides city-wide for abatement and control

  • Gateway Enhancement Projects – aesthetic improvements to City entry-ways and gateways

  • Downtown District Beautification - including street trees, landscape beds, and pocket parks, plazas, alleyways and breezeways

  • Sign Shop Operations – maintain, install, and repair all street signs and traffic control signs

  • Special Events – Planning and setup of events and festivals in cooperation with other City Divisions, Local Organizations, and the Florence Downtown Development Corporation

  • Special Construction Projects – maintenance, repairs, and construction of new City facilities, gathering places, and green spaces

  • Maintenance and Operation of the Jayne Boswell Animal Shelter
