Understanding Redistricting

The City of Florence will be holding a public meeting on Wednesday, September 6th from 5:30 pm until 6:30 pm to allow residents to comment on the proposed redistricting maps for the City of Florence three City Council districts.

What is Redistricting?

Redistricting is the process of amending our current City Council districts to equalize the population within the three City Council districts.

When does the City of Florence go through the redistricting process?

Federal and State regulations require redistricting to occur after each Decennial Census, with our most recent being 2020. Even if no changes are required, City Council must adopt the district map.

Are there any changes proposed with the current redistricting?

City Council has taken action to propose minor changes to the existing districts. These changes are highlighted on maps above.

Will I be affected by the proposed changes?

If you are a resident of one of the properties that will be amended, you will receive a letter notifying you of the change. If you have any questions or are unsure if you are affected you can call (843)665-2047, or attend the public meeting to get more information.
