Sanitary Sewer Collection System
The City of Florence Collection Operations Division is staffed with 18 full time employees who maintain the City’s sanitary sewer system. The sanitary sewer system consists of approximately 462 miles of gravity sewer mains and force mains, and approximately 7000 sewer manholes. Presently there are approximately 20,650 customers connected to the system. The system is designed to carry sewage from your house or business to the City of Florence Wastewater Management Facility at 1000 Stockade Road, where it is treated.
Maintenance of the sanitary sewer system consists of repairing sewer mains, manholes and sewer services. In addition, the Collection Operations Division makes water taps ranging in size from ¾ to 2 inches and sewer taps from 4 to 6 inches. Larger water and sewer taps are made by our Distribution Operations crew which specializes in large taps, or by a utility contractor.
The City maintains sanitary sewer services from the right of way to the sewer main, which runs underground in the public right of way. If you have a stopped sewer service, you should call the Collection Operations Division and a crew will be dispatched to investigate your problem. It is your (the customer’s) responsibility to provide access to the sewer service at the road right of way. This is usually accomplished by way of a sewer clean-out. If the problem is on the City side of the clean-out, the City crew will remove the blockage or dig up the pipe and repair it. If the blockage is on the private property side of the clean-out, then the customer will be notified that it is their responsibility to make the repair.

For after hours, weekends or holidays the aforementioned number will automatically forward to Police Dispatch, or you can contact them directly at (843)665-3191 for staff to be dispatched to your call.
