Beautify Our Community

treeThe City of Florence is proud of the progress it has made in beautification efforts.  Numerous gateways and public rights of way have been significantly improved over the years.  Continuing these efforts is a priority for the City, and several programs are available to allow citizens to be involved.  The City’s Tree Planting Fund and the Adopt-A-Park program are two examples of how you may contribute financially.  If you are interested in personal involvement and community service, you may wish to be considered for appointment to the Parks and Beautification Commission.  In addition, the City actively promotes beautification of private property such as businesses and parking lots through landscape ordinances.  As Florence continues to grow, these ordinances are a key part of making our community image a positive one.

For more information about beautification, or to make a donation, stop by the Public Works Department, located at 1440 McCurdy Road, between 7:30am and 4:00pm Monday through Friday, or call them at 665-3236.

Tree Planting Program

Plant-A-Tree

The City of Florence has been recognized as a “Tree City USA” for over 40 years by the National Arbor Day foundation and is justifiably proud of this accomplishment.  The Beautification and Facilities Division, along with the Parks and Beautification Commission, go to great lengths to protect the public tree population.  This involves safeguarding and maintaining the existing trees, as well as planting new trees for the future. One such program that helps this process is the City Tree Planting Fund.  This fund is used to supplement street tree planting efforts in areas where mature trees have died, and in other public locations that need trees.  The City also encourages citizens and businesses to plant trees on private property.  The City will be happy to supply information on tree species that do well in this area, proper planting methods, planting seasons and other valuable insight on tree planting.

For more information about the Tree Planting Fund or tree planting in general, call Beautification and Facilities at 665-3236.

Adopt-A-Park

parkOur park facilities are constantly in need of  improvements and increased levels of maintenance.  As one means to meet this end, the City of Florence, through the Parks and Beautification Commission, sponsors the Adopt-A-Park program.  This program encourages individual citizens, businesses, and groups to adopt their own “park”.  An entire park, or an area within a park may be adopted.  This may be for supplying individual items such as picnic tables, playground equipment, trees, etc., or you may wish to provide the funding for all maintenance at a specific site.  For further information on this great program, contact the Beautification and Facilities Division at 665-3236.
