SCHOOL RESOURCE PROGRAM

The City of Florence Police Department recognizes the importance of maintaining a good working relationship with its citizens as well as educating our youth.  That's why the department has developed a School Resource Program to provide junior high and high school-age students access to a police officer.  A uniformed officer is assigned to a specific secondary school on a full-time basis, where he or she fulfills a wide variety of responsibilities.  Officers teach law-related education courses in conjunction with the school's teachers.  In some schools, officers also assist with courses such as gang education and safety, police careers, and criminal law.  The officer is also responsible for establishing a positive police presence on campus and in the areas near each school.  This presence deters trespassers and non-students from coming to the school and keeps help close by for any potential problems.  Most importantly, each student, teacher, and staff member can feel comfortable talking with a police officer they know.  For more information about the program, contact the City of Florence Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, located in room 201 of the City-County Complex, 180 North Irby Street, Florence, between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, or call them at 843-676-8800.
