Deputy Chief of Police The position of Police Inspector functions as the Deputy Chief of Police who reports directly to the Chief of Police and acts on behalf of the Chief in his absence. This position oversees the day to day operations of the police department with the following divisions reporting directly to the Inspector. Divisions of the Florence Police Department The Patrol Division: Officers in Uniform who are responsible for all law enforcement activities in the city. The folks who brave the elements daily to make sure you are as secure as you can possibly be while in your home, business and while upon the streets and highways of this city. The Criminal Investigations Division: Officers behind the scenes who diligently follow up on criminal activity and complaints. They are also the ones who provide and apply special investigative techniques, services, and evidence collection to rid our streets of criminal activity. The Support Services Division: Officers who diligently investigate allegations of police impropriety while providing and addressing comprehensive law enforcement training issues to the entire department. This division also provides the law enforcement function for the municipal court. The Accreditation Division: Applies the highest national standards to department policy following the guide lines of the Commission on Accredited Law Enforcement Agencies. This division insures that every area of the police department follows proper policy and procedures in an effort to afford our citizens the highest quality of law enforcement services. The Community Services Division: Provides support for community neighborhood and business crime watch organizations. Insures open dialogue between citizens and police for a pro-active approach to law enforcement service. Property/Evidence and Supply: Preserves and stores evidence in accordance with national standards. Maintains the control of fuel consumption and procures / issues equipment as necessary to keep a full service law enforcement agency operational.
