THE CAGE: City park includes skateboard pad

The City of Florence, with much assistance from the In-Line/Skateboard Association, has constructed a 17,000 square foot skate park for skateboarders and in-line skaters.  The skate park, which is located at McLeod Park, has a flat concrete pad with various skate apparatuses strategically placed around the pad.  Some of the apparatuses in the park are one large half-pipe, one smaller half-pipe, three quarter pipes, and one large fun box with rails.  The entire skate park is fenced and supervised during operating hours.  There is an admission fee for each session.

Under a consolidation agreement with Florence County, the skate park in now operated by the Florence County Parks and Recreation Department.  Current hours of operation can be obtained by calling the Florence County Park and Recreation at 667-0920 or calling the Skate Park at 665-3202.
The skate park was constructed to meet a growing demand for a quality recreation facility for skateboarders and in-line skaters.  This park will not only enhance the quality of recreation for the skaters in the Florence community but will also provide opportunities for persons from other areas of the state and region.
