MISSION
STATEMENT
The mission of Keep
Florence Beautiful is to involve the community in responsible solutions
for a clean, litter free, and beautiful environment.
COMMITTEE
STRUCTURE/GOALS
Litter
Management Committee
Mission – To
organize, coordinate and promote community behaviors that drastically
reduce or eliminate litter in the Florence area.

Support/activate city
wide cleanup efforts beginning with the Great American Cleanup.
-
Work with the
existing Adopt-a-Highway Program to improve existing operations.
-
In cooperation with
the public relations and education committees will work with fast food
and convenience stores in seeking solutions to related litter
problems.
-
Address the uncovered
truck problem.
-
Recycle
telephone books.
-
Establish a regular
Pole Patrol through community groups to be kicked off during the Great
American Cleanup.
Administrative
Committee
Mission – The
administrative committee shall coordinate activities between the city and
county and other committee activities to define benchmarks and set
standards for various community initiatives; coordinate with city and
county authority to identify activities of a joint nature and seek
opportunities and define the ways and means to merge city and county
initiatives and resources to achieve common goals; and to define and draft
any proposed ordinances, proclamations, etc. for consideration by city
authority.
Beautification
Committee
Mission –
To promote beautification and community improvement by creating a sense of
responsibility for the care and well-being of one’s community
environment, by encouraging grassroots volunteer efforts to clean up and
beautify community areas and assisting neighborhood associations, garden
clubs and the like with various beautification projects.
Goals:

Recruit and involve active committee members,
-
Identify
areas in need of beautification,
-
Identify
and involve area groups/organizations with beautification projects,
-
Develop
initiatives/plans to address beautification needs, including letters
to property owners, cleanup campaigns and municipal assistance, and
-
Develop
an ongoing program to identify and recognize individuals/businesses
for their beautification efforts.
Activities:
-
Identify
groups/organizations (churches, boy scouts, civic organizations,
student groups, etc.) for potential assistance in the Great American
Cleanup.

Invite
identified organizations to commit their involvement in the Great
American Cleanup.
-
Identify areas in
need of improvement during the Cleanup (to include litter removal,
painting scrap removal, yard work, etc.)
-
Notify
property owners of identified needs in a positive manner and encourage
them to address areas of concern.
-
Encourage
groups/organizations to “adopt” identified areas in need as a
specific project during the Great American Cleanup.
Education
Committee
Mission – The
Education Committee will endeavor to include all area places of learning
(from daycare to university level) to promote broad community- wide
enthusiasm and support for Keep Florence Beautiful Goals.
Finance
Committee
Mission –
Responsible for the generation, management and direction of all financial
related matters, to include direct and in-kind contributions.

Establish, control
and monitor all financial matters, to include bank accounts and
related financial contributions, required to ensure the receipt of
monies and the payment of all expenses necessary for day-to-day
operation, and, as needed, to fund special, approved programs.

Prepare
an annual budget for approval by the board of directors.

Ensure
the accurate accounting and timely reporting of all finances.
-
Enlist and direct an
independent, qualified source to perform financial audits annually.
Public
Relations Committee
Mission: The
Public Relations Committee will promote the mission of Keep Florence
Beautiful to Florence and the surrounding community and utilize all
available communication resources to promote citizen participation in Keep
Florence Beautiful programs.
Goals:

Build a first-class
media list to promote Keep Florence Beautiful.

Promote the Great
American Cleanup activities (yearly).
-
Develop a
communications plan to spread the word about Keep Florence Beautiful
and how the public can become involved in KFB initiatives (website).
-
Communicate the facts
about litter–its dynamics, its sources, and what individuals can do
to reduce litter (educational PR campaign with education committee).
-
Develop, or
facilitate the creation of, materials for use by Keep Florence
Beautiful and all media (brochures, tapes, fact sheet).
-
Keep a close, working
relationship will all Keep Florence Beautiful committees to publicize
their accomplishments.

Provide positive
reinforcement for individual, group, and community-wide efforts to
reduce littering (help with Images Award)
