POLICE OFFICER, CLASS III (Pre-screening only)


$11.03/Hour   40 hours/week    (2080 hours/year)

Class III Police Officer positions include: Complex Police Officer, Transportation Police Officer, and Regional Police Officer

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-Must be at least 21 years old.
-Must possess a valid S.C. driver's license at time of hire.
-Must have a high school diploma or GED.
-Must be physically able to work with cabinet baggage x-ray equipment that may emit very low levels of ionized radiation and submit to appropriate medical screening and monitoring per DHEC procedures.

No visible tattoos while in uniform, i.e. no tattoos on head, neck, shoulders, upper chest, upper and lower arms (that would be visible with a short-sleeved shirt or T-shirt), wrists, and/or hands. Males will not wear earrings while on duty except in undercover situations and with prior approval.

  1. Copy of high school diploma or GED
  2. DD214 (Miliary release/discharge-long form)
  3. Copy of birth certificate or naturalization papers to ensure that the candidate is 21 years of age and a United States citizen 
  4. Copy of current, valid driver's license
  5. Original 10-year driver's record.  Must include record(s)from each state in which you held a driver's license in the past ten years  
  6. References from four (4) individuals.  Please do not include references from relatives, current/former supervisors, or current City of Florence employees. Information should include:

  • Home phone number
  • Work phone number
  • A brief statement as to how you know this person

SELECTION PROCESS

To be considered for assignment to the eligibility list, an applicant for this position must successfully complete a 3-phase pre-seessment program:

Phase I

Receipt of completed application along with requested documents

Verification of driving record in conjunction with City standards

Written exam

Phase II

Thorough background investigation

Oral Board interview

Demonstrate weapon proficiency with Glock 22.4.  Two attempts to successfully show a trainable level of proficiency with the firearm.

Police Chief interview

Phase III

Psychological exam

Polygraph
