The City of Florence Criminal Investigations Unit is commanded by a Captain and has 16 investigators assigned. Major cases and many specialty cases are handled by the Criminal Investigations Unit.

Most cases that require additional follow-up are assigned to an investigator after the initial police report is taken. The officer who takes the initial report can provide information as to whether the report will be assigned for investigation and possibly which investigator will handle it.

Narcotics and vice investigations and economic crimes may be reported directly to the Criminal Investigations Unit. For information regarding narcotics or vice investigations, please call the Florence Police Department dispatcher at 843-665-3191.

To report an economic crime such as embezzlement, fraud, or forgery, call the Florence Police Department dispatcher at 843-665-3191. For general questions regarding investigators or investigations, contact the Criminal Investigations Unit at 843-676-8800 between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
