The Mayor's Coalition to Prevent Juvenile Crime Conducts Health Fair for Florence Citizens

 

 

Press Release: Health Fair (Education and Screenings) - Friday, March 17, 2006, at Church Hill Housing Complex Community Center. (3-6 p.m. in the Church Hill Housing community center)

The human services committee of the Mayor's Coalition to Prevent Juvenile Crime conducted a health education fair and health screenings for residents of the Church Hill Housing Community, at the Church Hill Community Center, on Friday, March 17, 2006, from 3-6pm. The human services committee is chaired by Ms. Jodi Beauregard (Carolinas Hospital System) and Mr. Greg DeWitt (McLeod Hospital). Their hospitals along with representatives from DHEC, the Francis Marion University nursing program, and the Florence Darlington Technical College nursing program conducted the health fair. The following services were offered to the residents: Blood Pressure Readings, Body fat Analysis, Nutritional Education/Counseling, Diabetes Education/Counseling, Alcohol and Drug Education Counseling, Cardio-Vascular Assessments, Sleep Education, Cancer Education, Dexterity Assessment, Home Health Education, Women's Services, Rehab (inpatient). Living Wills. A heart healthy meal was also provided for the residents at the health fair.

Mayor's Coalition project director Jim Shaw said, "The human services committee is an excellent example of community agencies collaborating to benefit the citizens of Florence. The hospitals, DHEC, Francis Marion University, and Florence Darlington Technical College do whatever they can to help and are true leaders in our coalition and the city."

The Human Services Committee is also planning some "Lunch and Learn" activities later in the spring and will conduct childhood immunizations and review of immunizations records prior to the start of school.
