General Application Information

  • All City of Florence positions require a City Application Form, unless otherwise indicated. Applications are accepted year round, during normal office hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. The only exception is for official city office closings.
  • Applications must be sent to the Department of Human Resources at the address listed on the application form and received by this Department. If a "closing date" is indicated for a position, the application must be received by the Department of Human Resources by the close of the business on the posted closing date.
  • The City of Florence will NOT accept faxed Application Forms. All applications received for consideration must represent the original data and signature/date as provided by the applicant.
  • It is the policy of the City of Florence that employees of the City and applicants for employment shall be afforded equal opportunity in the various aspects of personnel management without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, political affiliation, disabilities, or age.
  • Individuals eligible for recall through the "lay-off" program may be given priority consideration.
  • The City of Florence defines specific worker characteristics and minimum qualifying attributes based upon the job functions of each position.
  • The selection process for each position is designed to identify the candidate's attributes commensurate with the specific job functions of each position.
  • At times education and experience may be interchangeable depending upon the job functions and the organizational needs.
  • The City of Florence recognizes a "pay classification" plan. This plan denotes job classification by a pay grade. It is not the practice of the City of Florence to negotiate pay.
  • The City of Florence does not recognize collective bargaining.
  • The Department of Human Resources will only divulge application status information to the candidate. Information regarding the application form, the selection process, testing information, and/or status report must be directed to the Department of Human Resources.

Guidelines

  • The job application form is the first impression the employer will have of you. Neatness, accuracy, and completeness are critical.
  • The city can only evaluate your attributes according to the information provided.
  • An incomplete application is almost a guarantee that the applicant will not be considered for further steps in the selection process.
  • Falsification of information will result in immediate rejection.

Processing Application Document

When the completed application form is received in the Department of Human Resources, the application will be recorded in the computer system, assigned to an "inactive status". The application computer record indicates the position(s) for which the candidate requested consideration.

It is , therefore, very important for an applicant to be as specific and detailed as possible when completing the application since this is the only source of information the Department has to evaluate an individual's attributes. Candidates selected for a selection process will be evaluated according to their knowledge, skills and abilities relating to the specific position.

Each candidate will receive notification from the Department of Human Resources regarding a) status report, b) test schedule, c) assessment program, and d) medical screening as may be assigned. The time frame involved in the application review and selection process varies with each position.

If you are chosen for a position, your employment status will be contingent upon successful completion of a drug/alcohol test, along with any other medical screening applicable to the job requirement. Upon satisfactory completion of the medical screening, the candidate will be assigned a date/time/place to report for a  "new employee orientation" session, which will be conducted by the Department of Human Resources prior to the start date.
